Nigeria TV Info reports:
In a renewed push to boost Nigeria’s non-oil export portfolio, the National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) has produced over 120,000 improved cashew seedlings for nationwide distribution to farmers. This initiative, part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s cashew export capacity, features seedlings from the highly valued Ogbomosho (Oyo State) variety, known globally for its superior quality and export demand.
Dr. Ojo Ajanaku, NCAN National President, stated that the variety being distributed matures within three years and is in high demand among international processors and exporters. "It is a uniform and premium breed that offers long-term economic benefits to our farmers and the nation’s export drive," he said.
According to Dr. Ajanaku, NCAN is currently producing seedlings in seven states: Benue (20,000), Kogi (20,000), Edo (40,000), Kwara (20,000), Oyo (30,000), and Enugu (50,000). In addition, the Beyond Farming Collective has contributed 45,000 seedlings to the effort. The association has so far produced 120,000 seedlings, with a target of 300,000.
