The government of the Netherlands has urged Nigeria to prioritize the modernization and professionalization of its agricultural sector as a critical step toward achieving lasting food security and strengthening economic resilience.

Speaking at a recent bilateral engagement focused on agricultural development, officials from the Dutch government emphasized that Nigeria’s vast agricultural potential remains largely untapped due to outdated farming practices, limited access to modern technology, and poor value chain coordination.

According to the Dutch envoy, transforming Nigeria’s agriculture into a more organized, business-driven sector will not only improve food availability but also enhance job creation, boost exports, and reduce the country’s dependency on food imports.
