President Bola Tinubu has expressed condolences to the families, organisations, and institutions affected by the tragic fire outbreak at Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which claimed lives and left several others injured.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, the President extended sympathies to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), United Capital, and United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, whose staff members were among the victims. He also condoled with Afriland Properties Limited, owners of the affected building.

“The President extends his condolences to the management and staff of Afriland Properties Limited, the FIRS, United Capital, UBA, and particularly those who lost loved ones in the inferno, and the injured who are currently receiving medical attention,” the statement read.

President Tinubu assured bereaved families of his prayers and wished the injured a quick recovery. He further praised the swift intervention of emergency responders, including the Federal Fire Service, medical personnel, first aid workers, and members of the public who assisted in the evacuation. He described their efforts as a reflection of “a deep sense of responsibility.”

The President also urged for more vigilance, preparedness, and regular training to prevent similar tragedies in the future. He prayed for the repose of the departed souls and comfort for their grieving families.
