Gunmen Kill Eight NSCDC Personnel, Abduct Five Chinese Expatriates in Edo

BENIN CITY — Tragedy struck on Friday night, August 5, 2025, as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers ambushed and killed eight personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The NSCDC officers were attached to the BUA Cement Factory, where they were providing security for five Chinese expatriates. Reports indicate that the assailants abducted the expatriates during the deadly attack.

An NSCDC official, who confirmed the incident on condition of anonymity, disclosed that four persons sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.

“The incident happened around 10 pm when the officers were escorting the Chinese expatriates after a routine patrol at the company’s entrance,” the source said.

Security agencies in Edo State are yet to release an official statement, but reinforcements have reportedly been deployed to track down the kidnappers and rescue the abducted expatriates.

The attack has heightened fears over insecurity in the region, particularly around industrial hubs, where expatriates and security operatives have increasingly become targets.
