Dangote Refinery Halts Sales to Unregistered Marketers
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has suspended the sale of refined petroleum products to marketers who are not duly registered with the appropriate regulatory agencies. The decision, announced on Thursday, is part of measures to ensure transparency, curb illegal trading, and strengthen product distribution across Nigeria.
According to sources within the refinery, only licensed and certified marketers will now be eligible to purchase petroleum products directly from the refinery. The move is aimed at protecting consumers, eliminating middlemen involved in sharp practices, and fostering fair competition in the downstream oil sector.
Industry analysts believe this development could help stabilize pricing and improve product availability, while also compelling independent marketers to formalize their operations. However, some stakeholders have expressed concerns that smaller, unregistered players may be pushed out of the market, potentially affecting fuel supply in certain regions.
The Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest, is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing Nigeria’s reliance on fuel imports and reshaping the country’s energy landscape.
