Lagos, Rivers, FCT Lead as IGR Rises 49% to N3.63 Trillion

Detailed News:
Nigeria’s internally generated revenue (IGR) surged by 49% to N3.63 trillion in 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The report shows Lagos, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the top-performing regions, contributing the largest share of the total IGR. Lagos alone generated over N1.2 trillion, maintaining its dominance as Nigeria’s economic hub, followed by Rivers with N540 billion and the FCT with N400 billion.
Analysts attribute the growth to improved tax compliance, digital revenue systems, and state-level economic reforms. States like Ogun, Delta, and Kaduna also recorded significant increases, while others lagged due to weak fiscal structures.
Experts say the revenue growth highlights Nigeria’s progress toward fiscal independence from oil, urging more states to adopt innovative strategies to boost local earnings.
