Nigeria TV Info reports:
The Imo State Government has intensified its digital transformation agenda through the governor’s flagship initiative, Skill Up Imo, in collaboration with the University of California, Berkeley and the US Market Access Center. According to Nigeria TV Info, this strategic programme aims to produce 100,000 globally employable tech professionals from Imo State by 2026.
Since its launch in 2022, Skill Up Imo has equipped over 40,000 youths with cutting-edge skills in artificial intelligence, software engineering, cybersecurity, and UI/UX design. The recently launched ImoTalentHub now bridges the gap between training and employment by providing graduates with verified professional profiles, portfolio showcases, and access to smart contracts for payment, taxation, and compliance—enabling firms across the world to easily hire talent in Owerri.
The academic foundation is anchored by UC Berkeley’s Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology, with faculty leading workshops on ethical AI, venture capital, and innovation, while also establishing NVIDIA-powered cloud labs at the Imo Digital City. A special Founder Development Programme has also commenced, offering Berkeley certifications and direct access to venture capital.
Governor Hope Uzodimma, speaking to Nigeria TV Info, emphasized that the initiative marks a bold shift from a resource-based economy to one powered by digital skills and innovation. He said: “Imo is moving from an analogue economy to a digital future. This partnership equips our youths with the tools and global exposure needed to create and scale startups right from Owerri.”
The governor reiterated the administration’s ambition to empower 300,000 residents within five years and fully integrate Imo’s tech ecosystem into the global digital economy.
