EFCC Opens Fraud Trial Against Blessing CEO, Court Reserves Bail Ruling

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has formally opened its fraud case against Nigerian relationship therapist and social media personality, Blessing CEO, over allegations involving an alleged ₩36 million property transaction fraud.

The case commenced before the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, where Justice Deinde Dipeolu heard arguments from both the prosecution and the defence regarding the defendant's bail application. Following submissions from both parties, the court reserved its ruling on the bail request until June 9, 2026.

According to the EFCC, Blessing CEO is facing a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and stealing. Prosecutors allege that she received ₩36 million from a complainant under the pretext of securing the lease of a six-bedroom duplex in Lekki, Lagos, despite allegedly lacking ownership rights to the property.

During the trial, the prosecution called its first witness, EFCC investigator Bufa Regina Okangbe, who testified that investigations revealed multiple transactions linked to the funds received from the complainant. The witness also stated that inquiries conducted with relevant authorities indicated that the disputed property belonged to another individual and not the defendant.

The defence team urged the court to grant bail on liberal terms, while EFCC counsel opposed the application, arguing that the defendant had previously failed to honour invitations extended by the anti-graft agency during the investigation.

Justice Dipeolu admitted several documents into evidence and adjourned the matter for a ruling on the bail application, while the substantive trial is expected to continue later this month.

The case has attracted significant public attention due to Blessing CEO's large social media following and influence in Nigeria's relationship and lifestyle space. As legal proceedings continue, observers will be closely watching the court's next decisions regarding bail and the ongoing fraud allegations.

Nigeria TV Info will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as the case progresses.
