The Federal Government's proposed plan to resume oil exploration activities in Ogoniland may hit a major roadblock as leaders and residents of the region warn of potential disruptions should their longstanding demands be ignored.

Sources within the Ogoni community say the people are not opposed to resuming oil production, but insist that the government must first fulfill several preconditions laid out over the years. These include environmental remediation of polluted farmlands and rivers, compensation for decades of exploitation and neglect, and the inclusion of Ogoni stakeholders in any negotiation or operational framework going forward.

A local spokesperson noted that previous attempts to restart oil operations in the area have failed due to what he described as "insensitivity and high-handedness" by federal authorities and oil companies. "We will not sit idle while our environment and people continue to suffer. Any attempt to commence operations without meeting our conditions will be fiercely resisted," he warned.
