NGO Advocates Improved Palliative Care for Women Battling Cancer

Category: Health |

Nigeria TV Info reports: Project Pink Blue, a cancer care NGO, is calling for improved access to pain relief and palliative care for Nigerian women battling gynecologic cancers such as cervical and ovarian cancer. With thousands of women dying in pain each year, the organisation, in partnership with the International Gynaecologic Cancer Society (IGCS), has launched the "Count Me In: Pain and Palliative Project". A global steering committee has been formed to drive this initiative, aiming to enhance cancer care delivery, train healthcare workers, advocate policy reforms, and increase public awareness. According to PPB, less than half of cancer centres in Nigeria currently have functioning palliative care units, and access to pain medication, especially oral morphine, remains a major challenge.
