Ebola: Tinubu Approves ₦10bn Emergency Fund, Sets Up National Response Task Force

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a ₦10 billion emergency intervention fund and established a national task force following renewed concerns over Ebola preparedness in Nigeria.

According to a statement from the Federal Government, the move is aimed at strengthening surveillance, rapid response capacity, and containment systems to prevent any possible outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country.

The task force will be coordinated in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, state health ministries, and international partners to enhance border monitoring, laboratory testing, and emergency isolation centres nationwide.

Officials explained that the ₦10bn fund will be deployed for procurement of medical equipment, training of health workers, public awareness campaigns, and reinforcement of quarantine protocols at entry points.

The government noted that although Nigeria currently has no confirmed Ebola case, proactive measures are necessary due to ongoing regional risks in parts of West and Central Africa.

Health authorities assured citizens that surveillance systems remain active and urged the public to maintain hygiene practices and report suspected cases promptly to health agencies.

The Federal Ministry of Health added that the task force will submit periodic reports directly to the presidency to ensure transparency and swift action in the event of any outbreak.
