NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Against Fake Contraceptive Pills

ABUJA — The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a strong warning to Nigerians over the circulation of falsified batches of the emergency contraceptive pill, Postinor-2 (Levonorgestrel 0.75mg).

In a public alert, the agency disclosed that the counterfeit products were uncovered after the Society for Family Health (SFH), the marketing authorisation holder, reported that it had not imported the suspicious items.

NAFDAC further revealed that the fake contraceptives can be identified by noticeable spelling and labeling errors on their packaging, which set them apart from the genuine version.

The agency urged members of the public to exercise vigilance, purchase only from licensed pharmacies, and immediately report any suspected counterfeit medicines.

This development highlights growing concerns about the dangers of fake pharmaceuticals in circulation and reinforces NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to safeguard public health.
