NCDC Confirms Three New Lassa Fever Cases in Edo, Ondo
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed three new cases of Lassa Fever in its latest situation report for Week 34, covering August 18–24, 2025.
According to the agency, the fresh cases were reported in Edo and Ondo states, which remain among the hotspots for the viral disease in the country.
Lassa Fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic illness transmitted to humans through contact with food or household items contaminated by rodents. Human-to-human transmission can also occur through contact with the blood, urine, or other bodily fluids of infected individuals.
The NCDC reassured the public that it is working closely with state authorities and health facilities to strengthen surveillance, provide medical care, and ensure the availability of essential supplies to manage the disease.
It also urged Nigerians to maintain good hygiene, store food properly, and report early symptoms such as fever, weakness, and bleeding to the nearest health facility.
