Obi Visits Olubadan-designate, Harps on Nigeria’s Unity
Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, on Sunday paid a courtesy visit to the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, at his Alalubosa residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The former Anambra State governor, who was warmly received by members of the Olubadan-in-Council and traditional aides, described the monarch as a man of peace and integrity whose reign, he believed, would further strengthen communal harmony and development in Ibadanland and Nigeria at large.
Speaking during the visit, Obi emphasized that Nigeria’s greatest strength lies in its unity despite its ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity. He called on leaders at all levels to promote inclusivity, justice, and fairness as a foundation for peace and national progress.
“Our country is passing through difficult times, but we must not allow our differences to divide us. What we need now is unity, cooperation, and visionary leadership that puts the people first. I believe Kabiyesi’s ascension will bring peace, wisdom, and prosperity to the people of Ibadan and Oyo State,” Obi stated.
He further urged traditional rulers across the country to continue playing their unifying roles, noting that their influence remained vital in sustaining stability and fostering dialogue between the people and government.
In his brief response, the Olubadan-designate expressed appreciation for Obi’s visit, describing it as a demonstration of respect for Ibadanland and its tradition. He assured the Labour Party leader of his commitment to work with government and relevant stakeholders to ensure peace, progress, and the welfare of his people.
The visit drew attention from residents and political observers, many of whom saw it as part of Obi’s continued effort to build bridges across regions and reaffirm his commitment to a united Nigeria.
