Severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall in recent weeks has claimed the lives of over 300 people across various regions of Nigeria. According to emergency officials, more than 100,000 people have been displaced, with many losing their homes, farms, and means of livelihood.
The most affected states include Benue, Kogi, Anambra, Niger, and Bayelsa, where rivers have overflowed and submerged entire communities.
Federal and state emergency agencies have set up temporary camps to accommodate displaced families. Victims are being provided with food, drinking water, and basic medical care. However, humanitarian organizations report that conditions in many camps remain dire, with overcrowding and shortages of essential supplies.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has urged residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate to safer locations and called for urgent support from both local and international partners to help manage the crisis.
Meteorologists warn that more rainfall is expected in the coming weeks, raising fears of further devastation if proactive measures are not taken immediately.
