Nigeria TV Info – FCT Declares No Ebola Case, Resident Doctors Call Off Strike
Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has officially confirmed that there is no case of Ebola in the territory. This follows the testing of an index patient, who returned from Rwanda and was initially suspected of carrying the virus that causes haemorrhagic fever. Tests for both Ebola and Marburg disease returned negative results.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) also confirmed the development, assuring the public of the safety and accuracy of the tests conducted.
On Friday, FCT Resident Doctors announced the suspension of their indefinite strike after the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, approved all their demands, including the payment of unpaid arrears.
Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary for Health and Environmental Services, addressed the media regarding the Ebola suspect. She reassured passengers aboard the Rwanda Air flight that transported the index patient that all contacts had been traced and managed according to Ebola protocols. She emphasized that the public should not panic.
“I am here also to appeal to members of the press to verify information before publication and to thank you for attending this verification meeting. Regarding the question, ‘Is Ebola in the FCT?’ on behalf of the Minister, I can confirm today that Ebola is not in FCT – confirmed, verified, and said with authority,” Dr. Fasawe stated.
