Shettima Departs Abuja for New York to Attend UN General Assembly
Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has departed Abuja for New York to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The high-level gathering, which will attract world leaders, global policymakers, and diplomats, is scheduled to focus on pressing international issues, including climate change, global security, economic recovery, and sustainable development.
Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement on behalf of President Tinubu, outlining the administration’s foreign policy priorities and calling for stronger international cooperation to tackle global challenges. He is also scheduled to engage in bilateral meetings with world leaders, international organizations, and business executives to deepen Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic partnerships.
The Vice President will participate in key side events that highlight Africa’s role in global peace, energy transition, and economic integration, while also pushing Nigeria’s agenda on investment, food security, and climate resilience.
Shettima is leading Nigeria’s delegation to the UNGA and will return to the country after the conclusion of the high-level sessions.
