S’West States Tighten Borders Amid Banditry Surge in Kwara
In response to the rising wave of banditry spilling over from Kwara State, governments across the South-West region have heightened security measures along their borders. Security agencies, including the police, Amotekun Corps, and local vigilante groups, have been placed on high alert to prevent infiltration by criminal elements.
Authorities in Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, and Ondo states confirmed that intelligence reports point to increasing movements of suspected bandits from Kwara into neighboring communities. As a result, checkpoints have been reinforced while patrols have been intensified across major entry points and border towns.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives by reporting suspicious activities. Community leaders in border towns are also being engaged to strengthen local intelligence networks.
Security analysts warn that unless proactive steps are sustained, the escalation of banditry in Kwara could threaten peace and stability in the South-West region. Meanwhile, state governments have reassured citizens that all measures are being taken to safeguard lives and property.
