Fraud: Interpol Arrests Wanted Nigerian in Argentina

News Report:
A Nigerian national identified as Chukwudi Okafor has been arrested by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, over alleged involvement in a multimillion-dollar internet fraud syndicate. Okafor, 38, was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2023 for his role in cyber scams targeting businesses across Europe and Africa.

Interpol officials confirmed that Okafor had been on their red notice list for over a year before his arrest on Tuesday following intelligence sharing between Nigerian and Argentine authorities. According to reports, he operated a fake investment platform that defrauded victims of more than $2.7 million.

The suspect is currently being held in Argentine custody pending extradition to Nigeria, where he will face prosecution for money laundering, identity theft, and cybercrime. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the arrest underscores the growing collaboration between international law enforcement agencies in combating cross-border financial crimes.

The Nigerian government has commended Interpol and pledged continued cooperation in tracking fugitives hiding abroad.
