Arise TV Anchor Laid to Rest as Peter Obi Decries Rising Insecurity Across Nigeria

The remains of Arise Television anchor, Mrs. Amaka Okechukwu, were laid to rest on Saturday amid tears and tributes from family, colleagues, and dignitaries. The funeral, held in her hometown in Anambra State, drew notable figures from the media, political, and entertainment sectors.

Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who attended the burial, lamented the worsening insecurity in the country. He decried the rising spate of killings, kidnappings, and violent crimes, noting that the media had also become victims of the nation’s security collapse.

Obi described the late journalist as “a courageous and patriotic media professional who used her platform to speak truth to power.” He called on the government to “restore security and protect the lives of citizens, including those who risk their safety to inform the public.”

Colleagues at Arise TV praised Okechukwu for her professionalism, integrity, and fearless reporting, saying her death was a huge loss to Nigerian journalism.

Security operatives were present at the funeral to ensure order, as the community continues to mourn what many describe as “a tragic symbol of the nation’s insecurity crisis.”
