Motor and Refinery Services (MRS), one of Nigeria’s largest fuel distributors, officially confirmed a nationwide fuel price increase on June 21, 2025.

The price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) is now:

In Lagos: ₦925/liter (previously ₦885)

In the Southeast region: ₦955/liter

In some Northern states: ₦940–₦970/liter

💡 Why did the price increase?
According to the company, the main reasons for the hike include:

Rising transportation and logistics costs

Foreign exchange fluctuations making fuel components more expensive

National distribution chain difficulties and maintenance issues

📉 Impact on the population
Many households are already buying less fuel or seeking alternative transportation.

Small business owners and transport workers (okada, keke, bus drivers) have reported significant losses.

Prices of essential goods are also expected to rise due to increased transportation costs.

🗣️ What is the public saying?
Several residents and civil organizations are calling for government intervention to regulate the market and take action to stabilize prices.
