The Catholic Bishops of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province have declared Friday, June 20, 2025, as a special day of prayer and fasting, calling on all faithful to seek divine intervention for lasting peace and security in Nigeria, while strongly condemning the gruesome killings in Benue and Enugu States as barbaric, inhuman, and a grave violation of human dignity. Similarly, the Anglican Diocese of Amichi has lamented the worsening state of the nation, highlighting the alarming rise in poverty, unemployment, hunger, and the growing number of out-of-school children, while squarely placing blame on the doorstep of Nigeria’s political elite, whom they described as heartless, insensitive, and corrupt individuals feeding off the suffering of ordinary citizens.
