Samia Hassan Sworn In for Second Term Amid Disputed Tanzanian Election

Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been officially sworn in for a second term in office following a highly contested general election marred by allegations of irregularities. The inauguration ceremony, held in Dodoma, drew attendance from regional leaders, diplomats, and members of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party.

Opposition parties have rejected the election outcome, citing widespread reports of ballot stuffing, voter intimidation, and restricted access to polling stations in key urban areas. International observers expressed concerns about transparency, though the government maintained the election was free and fair.

In her inaugural address, President Hassan pledged to promote national unity, economic recovery, and inclusive governance, urging political rivals to “join hands for the nation’s progress.” She also reaffirmed commitments to infrastructure development, education reform, and anti-corruption measures.

Analysts say Hassan’s second term will test her ability to balance reformist ambitions with the CCM’s entrenched political interests, amid growing pressure for democratic reforms and media freedom in Tanzania.
