FG Mandates Armed Forces, Intelligence Agencies to Rescue Abducted Kebbi Students

The federal government has directed the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Department of State Services (intelligence agency) to immediately locate, rescue and safely return the female students abducted from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga in the Danko-Wasagu area of Kebbi State.

Early Monday morning at about 4 a.m., gunmen wielding sophisticated weapons broke through the school fence, killed the vice-principal and wounded others before abducting around 25 girls from the boarding hostels.

In a statement, the Minister of Information and National Orientation said the federal government “will not relent until the objective is achieved,” and assured that the perpetrators will face justice.

The state government and defence ministry have mobilised joint ground and air operations combing forests, escape routes, and nearby communities in coordination with vigilante groups, local police tactical units and military formations.

Parents and community leaders in Maga are anxiously awaiting progress, and the governor has urged calm while calling for community assistance in reporting movement of suspicious persons.
