PDP Speaks on Fubara’s Defection, Says Governor Suffering From Trauma-Induced Amnesia

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted strongly to the recent defection of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, describing his exit from the party as a “decision influenced by political trauma and confusion.”

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Directorate on Wednesday, the PDP said Fubara’s shocking comments and actions in the last few weeks suggest that the governor may be experiencing “amnesia resulting from the intense political hostility and pressure he has faced since assuming office.”

According to the party, Fubara’s claim that the PDP did not contribute to his emergence as governor is “a clear distortion of history” and evidence of the emotional toll the crisis in Rivers State has taken on him.

The PDP emphasised that it provided the platform, resources, and structure that enabled Fubara's victory in the 2023 election, insisting that “no amount of revisionist narrative can erase verifiable political facts.”

The party also dismissed insinuations that Fubara’s defection had weakened the PDP in the state, noting that its structure “remains intact at the ward, local government, and state levels.”

PDP leaders warned that the governor’s latest political moves could further destabilise governance in Rivers State, urging him to “pause, reflect, and regain clarity” before taking decisions that could have long-term implications for the state.

They called on stakeholders and elder statesmen in the region to help “restore stability and guide the governor back to a path of responsible leadership.”

The PDP concluded by reaffirming its commitment to protecting its mandate in Rivers State while continuing to monitor the unfolding developments.
