Trump Releases Photo of Handcuffed Venezuelan President Maduro After Alleged Capture in Caracas
United States President Donald Trump has released a photograph purportedly showing Venezuelan President NicolĂĄs Maduro in handcuffs, hours after what he described as Maduroâs capture by U.S. forces in Caracas alongside his wife.
Trump shared the image on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, January 3, 2026. In the photograph, Maduro is seen wearing noise-cancelling earmuffs, dark glasses, and grey Nike-branded sweatpants and a jacket. According to Trump, the image was taken aboard a United States Navy vessel, the USS Iwo Jima, following the operation.
Addressing a press conference later on Saturday, Trump said the military action and subsequent capture were carried out without any casualties on the U.S. side.
âNot a single member of the United States forces involved in the strikes and the capture of NicolĂĄs Maduro was killed,â Trump said.
Speaking from his Mar-a-Lago residence, the U.S. president also stated that no American military equipment was damaged during the operation.
As of the time of this report, there has been no independent confirmation from the U.S. Department of Defense, the Venezuelan government, or international organizations regarding the capture or the authenticity of the photograph. The development has, however, triggered intense global reactions and heightened diplomatic tensions.
