COAS Reaffirms Nigerian Army’s Commitment to Boost Security Operations in Niger State
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening security operations in Niger State through enhanced troop deployment, improved use of technology, and closer collaboration with traditional institutions and other key stakeholders.
Shaibu gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, at his palace in Bida.
The visit formed part of the COAS’s operational tour of the terror-ravaged state, which has recently witnessed increased cases of kidnapping and persistent attacks by bandits and other criminal elements. The tour was aimed at reviewing the prevailing security situation and assessing the effectiveness of ongoing military operations.
According to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the visit enabled the army leadership to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of current military deployments across Niger State, identify operational gaps, and determine areas requiring the deployment of additional troops and combat enablers to effectively counter emerging security threats.
Speaking during the engagement, Lieutenant-General Shaibu underscored the importance of intelligence-driven operations, with a strong emphasis on community-based strategies and human intelligence. He noted that sustained cooperation between the military, traditional rulers, and local communities remains critical to achieving lasting peace and security in the state.
The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, commended the Nigerian Army for its efforts and assured the COAS of the continued support of traditional institutions in promoting intelligence sharing and community cooperation to restore safety across Niger State.
