2027: ADC Cracks as ‘Obidients’ Demand Presidential Ticket
Tension has reportedly rocked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following growing pressure from members of the ‘Obidient’ movement, who are demanding the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election. Party insiders disclosed that heated meetings and parallel consultations have emerged as leaders struggle to manage competing interests and rising factional influence.
Sources within the party revealed that the Obidient bloc, believed to command strong youth support and grassroots networks across major urban centres, is pushing for a transparent primary process that would favour a candidate aligned with their reform agenda. They argue that ADC’s chances in 2027 depend on presenting a credible candidate with nationwide appeal and strong voter mobilisation capacity.
However, some long-standing ADC stakeholders have expressed concern that the sudden influx of Obidient supporters could destabilise internal party structures and marginalise founding members. Party elders are reportedly calling for dialogue to prevent a possible split, warning that unresolved disputes may weaken the party’s electoral prospects.
In response, the ADC National Working Committee is said to be considering emergency reconciliation talks and internal reforms aimed at harmonising interests, strengthening party unity, and avoiding defections. Analysts believe how the party manages the crisis could determine its relevance in the 2027 presidential race.
