Tinubu Summons Plateau Governor Over Jos Attack

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has summoned the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, to Abuja following the recent deadly attack in Jos that left several residents killed and properties destroyed.

The presidency expressed deep concern over the recurring violence in Plateau communities, describing the situation as unacceptable. According to sources within the State House, the meeting is aimed at assessing the security situation, identifying lapses, and implementing urgent strategies to prevent further bloodshed.

The attack, which occurred in a community on the outskirts of Jos, has heightened tensions in the region, with reports of coordinated assaults by armed groups. Eyewitnesses recounted how gunmen stormed the area late at night, shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze, forcing many residents to flee.

President Tinubu condemned the killings and extended condolences to the victims’ families. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Nigeria, directing security agencies to intensify operations in Plateau and bring perpetrators to justice.

Governor Mutfwang, while reacting to the incident, described the attack as barbaric and assured citizens that the state government is collaborating with federal security agencies to restore peace. He also called for calm among residents and urged communities to support security efforts with credible information.

Security analysts say the renewed violence in Plateau highlights longstanding communal and ethnic tensions in the region, often fueled by disputes over land and resources. The federal government’s intervention is seen as a crucial step toward stabilizing the area and preventing escalation.

As investigations continue, residents of Jos and surrounding communities remain on edge, hoping for swift action to halt the cycle of violence and ensure lasting peace.
