Tinubu Reshuffles Education Agencies, Names NECO, NBTE Chairs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments across key agencies in Nigeria’s education sector, in a move aimed at strengthening institutional governance and accelerating reforms.

According to official statements from the Presidency, the reshuffle affects major bodies under the Federal Ministry of Education, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

For NECO, Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Board, while the current Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, will continue in office to ensure continuity.

In the NBTE, the President named Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the Governing Board. The move follows the earlier reappointment of Professor Idris Bugaje as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.

The shake-up also extends beyond NECO and NBTE. Tinubu approved the appointment of a new rector for the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, and renewed the tenure of the Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria, reinforcing leadership continuity in critical institutions.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the appointments are part of broader efforts to reposition Nigeria’s education system, enhance service delivery, and ensure effective policy implementation across agencies.

Analysts view the changes as a strategic attempt by the administration to inject experienced leadership into the education sector, particularly at a time when reforms in technical education, examination management, and institutional governance remain central to national development.
