Wabara-Led PDP BoT Appoints 13-Member Interim NWC
The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the opposition party, People's Democratic Party (Nigeria), chaired by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, has approved the appointment of a 13-member Interim National Working Committee (NWC) to steer the party through its current internal restructuring phase.
The decision was reached during a high-level BoT meeting aimed at restoring stability, unity, and direction within the party following months of leadership tensions and factional disputes. According to the resolution, the interim committee is expected to oversee day-to-day operations, reconcile aggrieved members, and prepare the ground for a fully elected NWC in line with the partyâs constitution.
Wabara emphasized that the move is not a takeover but a âstrategic interventionâ to reposition the party ahead of future national engagements. He noted that the committeeâs mandate is time-bound and focused strictly on rebuilding trust among stakeholders and strengthening internal democracy.
Party insiders disclosed that the 13-member team includes representatives drawn from different geopolitical zones to ensure inclusivity and balance. The interim leadership is also expected to conduct consultations with state chapters and party elders to address lingering disputes.
Reactions from within the party have been mixed, with some members welcoming the development as a necessary corrective step, while others have called for clearer timelines to avoid prolonged interim arrangements.
Analysts say the decision underscores ongoing efforts within the PDP to regain cohesion and reposition itself as a strong opposition force in Nigeriaâs political landscape.
