Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has died at the age of 82 in a hospital in London. Vice President Kashim Shettima, on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, flew to London and returned with Buhari’s remains late Sunday night.

National flags were seen flying at half-mast across major government buildings as tributes poured in from former President Olusegun Obasanjo, serving governors, political leaders, and foreign dignitaries, all hailing the former military ruler and civilian president as a leader who left a lasting legacy in Nigeria’s history.

Buhari’s body is scheduled to arrive in Daura, Katsina State, early Monday morning for immediate burial in line with Islamic rites. President Tinubu and several past heads of state are expected to attend the funeral. Buhari, a former military General and two-term democratic president, will be remembered for his decades-long influence on Nigerian politics and governance.
