Dangote Exports 1.66 Billion Litres of Fuel Amid US–Iran Tensions
Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery has recorded a major export milestone, shipping about 1.66 billion litres of refined petroleum products in April 2026, as global energy markets react to rising geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran.
According to data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the exports included petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel, making April one of the refinery’s strongest export months since operations began at full capacity.
Industry reports show that the surge in exports was driven by increased international demand for refined fuels following uncertainty around Middle East supply routes, particularly concerns over disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Analysts say the Dangote Refinery, operating at near full capacity, is increasingly positioning Nigeria as a net exporter of refined petroleum products, reducing dependence on imports while boosting foreign exchange earnings.
The refinery’s strong export performance also reflects a broader shift in global fuel trade, as countries in Europe, Africa, and Asia seek alternative suppliers amid volatility in traditional oil-producing regions.
