APC Unveils 25 Governorship Candidates as Kwara, Bauchi Primaries Suffer Delay
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully produced governorship candidates in 25 states ahead of the 2027 general elections, while primary elections in Kwara and Bauchi states were postponed following internal disagreements and stakeholder consultations.
The partyâs National Working Committee announced that the governorship primaries earlier scheduled for Thursday in Kwara and Bauchi would now hold on Friday, citing the need to ensure a transparent, peaceful and credible process. The APC also shifted State House of Assembly primaries for Maradun I and Maradun II constituencies in Zamfara to May 24.
Despite the delays, the ruling party recorded smooth exercises in several states including Ogun, Kaduna, Kebbi, Delta, Rivers, Enugu and Katsina, where incumbent governors and consensus-backed aspirants emerged victorious.
Reports indicate that the postponement in Kwara and Bauchi followed rising tensions among party stakeholders and unresolved negotiations over preferred candidates. In Kwara especially, political camps loyal to influential figures within the party reportedly disagreed over succession arrangements.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the postponement became necessary after consultations with stakeholders to maintain orderliness and credibility in the electoral process.
Meanwhile, in Nasarawa State, voting materials reportedly arrived late, forcing many delegates to return home before accreditation and voting could continue.
Political observers say the developments reflect the growing intensity of internal party battles as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum across the country.
