Six Transmission Towers Vandalised In Nasarawa, Disrupting Power Supply
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that six transmission towers along the ApirâLafia 330kV transmission corridor in Nasarawa State were vandalised, resulting in significant disruptions to electricity supply across several parts of North-Central Nigeria.
According to the company, the incident was discovered after a heavy rainfall caused a transmission line trip. A subsequent inspection by TCN engineers revealed extensive damage to critical components on transmission towers T125 to T130, confirming acts of vandalism.
The destruction of the towers has rendered both ApirâLafia 330kV Transmission Lines I and II out of service, affecting bulk electricity transmission and leading to power outages in areas served by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC).
TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah stated that engineers have been mobilised to the site to assess the damage and commence reconstruction work aimed at restoring normal electricity transmission as quickly as possible.
To reduce the impact on consumers, the company disclosed that the Lafia 330kV Transmission Station is currently receiving power through the LafiaâJos transmission line while repair efforts continue.
TCN condemned the vandalisation of critical power infrastructure, describing it as a major threat to the nation's electricity network and economic development. The company also called on residents and host communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around transmission facilities to security agencies.
