Nigerian Senate Orders Arrest of Bandits Flaunting Cash on TikTok

The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has reportedly issued a strong directive calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of armed bandits seen flaunting large sums of cash and making provocative content on TikTok, in what lawmakers describe as a disturbing trend fueling insecurity and public fear.

According to legislative sources, the decision followed growing outrage over viral videos circulating on social media platforms, where suspected criminal elements openly display ill-gotten wealth, weapons, and lifestyles linked to violent activities. Senators expressed concern that such content not only glorifies crime but also undermines national security efforts.

Lawmakers emphasized that the development reflects the increasing intersection between social media and criminal propaganda, urging security agencies to intensify digital surveillance and collaboration with tech platforms to track and apprehend suspects.

The Senate also directed relevant security agencies, including the police and intelligence services, to identify individuals featured in the videos and ensure swift legal action. They further called for stricter enforcement of cybercrime laws to deter similar behaviour in the future.

Observers say the move signals a tougher legislative stance on online criminal display culture, especially among youth networks linked to banditry and organized crime.
