‘We’ll Protect Abuja Master Plan’ – Wike Hints at Looming Demolitions in FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reiterated his administration's commitment to enforcing the Abuja Master Plan, warning that structures erected in violation of approved regulations may face demolition.

Speaking during an official engagement in Abuja, Wike emphasized that the government would not compromise on urban planning standards, insisting that illegal developments threaten the city's infrastructure, security, and long-term sustainability. According to him, restoring order in the nation's capital requires strict adherence to the original development blueprint.

The minister stated that property owners and developers who failed to obtain the necessary approvals or who built on restricted areas should expect enforcement actions. He added that the FCT Administration would continue monitoring construction activities to ensure compliance with planning laws.

Wike maintained that the planned enforcement is not intended to victimize residents but to preserve Abuja's status as a modern and well-organized capital city. He urged citizens to verify land titles and building approvals before embarking on any construction project.

The statement has sparked mixed reactions among residents and stakeholders. While some support the move as necessary to curb indiscriminate development, others have called on the government to ensure due process, provide adequate notice, and consider the social impact of demolitions on affected families and businesses.

The FCT Administration is expected to intensify inspections in the coming weeks, raising expectations that more structures deemed to violate the Abuja Master Plan could be marked for demolition.
