Nigeria TV Info Report â ABUJA:
The Nigerian Senate has defended its decision to block Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, from entering the Senate chamber on Tuesday. The embattled senator had arrived at the National Assembly with the intention to resume legislative duties following the expiration of her six-month suspension. However, she was prevented from gaining access by security personnel who claimed they were acting on "orders from above."
Reacting to the development on a Tuesday night programme, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, dismissed Akpoti-Uduaghanâs return attempt as a publicity stunt. He criticized the senator for what he described as turning legislative procedures into âcontent creation.â
According to Adaramodu, âThe National Assembly is for serious lawmaking, not for skit-making or theatrics. Initially, it seemed like content creation, but now itâs becoming more like a season film. We are lawmakers, not actors.â
He further emphasized that even in the presence of a court judgment, enforcement must follow legal and procedural channels. âNo litigant enforces a judgment personally. There is a legal process to follow, and that process must be respected,â he added.
