Federal High Court Orders Police to Pay N10 Million Compensation to #EndSARS Protesters

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has delivered a significant judgment in favor of victims of police brutality during the #EndSARS protests. In its ruling, the court ordered the Inspector-General of Police and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to jointly pay the sum of ₦10 million as damages to a group of protesters whose fundamental human rights were violated.

The case was brought before the court by some individuals who participated in the peaceful #EndSARS demonstrations. They alleged that they were unlawfully arrested, detained, and subjected to inhumane treatment by law enforcement officers, contrary to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

Justice [Name not yet disclosed] ruled that the actions of the police were not only unjustifiable but also amounted to a gross abuse of power and a clear infringement on the protesters’ rights to freedom of assembly, expression, and personal liberty.
