ABUJA — The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA) has issued a fresh alert warning that from August 7 to 21, 2025, heavy flooding is expected to hit 198 Local Government Areas across 31 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The agency’s latest advisory categorises the flood risk levels as Very High, High, and Moderate, based on rainfall intensity projections and local terrain. This comes as the Lagos State Government expressed sympathy to Ikorodu residents affected by Monday’s prolonged downpour, assuring that measures are in place to curb flash floods. Just a day earlier, the Federal Government, through the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre, had also cautioned residents in 19 states to take urgent precautions. States at risk include Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, FCT, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara, with over 832 communities threatened.
