ILORIN/ABUJA — The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Obinna Onubogu, on Saturday led a team to Kaiama and Baruten local government areas of Kwara State to assess troops deployed to flush out terrorists operating in the region.

During the operation, security forces arrested twelve suspects believed to be linked to terror activities in the border communities. The visit, according to military sources, was part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and reassure residents of the Army’s commitment to security in the area.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, former National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has accused federal security agencies of neglecting their constitutional duties in Zamfara State.

Shinkafi, who also serves as the Executive Director of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, faulted the military and police for “waiting for orders from Abuja” while citizens are being killed, abducted, and displaced by bandits.

In a statement personally signed, he described the development as “unacceptable,” lamenting that troops allegedly fail to act on actionable intelligence provided by the Zamfara State government, even as bandits continue to unleash terror on rural communities.

Shinkafi’s criticism comes amid growing public frustration over the federal government’s handling of insecurity in the North-West, where banditry has displaced thousands and crippled socio-economic life.
