Thunderstorm Snaps TCN’s 132kV Transmission Line in Otukpo–Nsukka–New Haven Axis
ABUJA — The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that a severe thunderstorm on September 3, 2025, led to the snapping of its 132kV Otukpo–Nsukka–New Haven transmission line.
According to a statement issued yesterday by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, the incident occurred late in the evening when the cut conductor fell to the ground near Tower 97 along the route.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) wishes to inform the public that a thunderstorm that occurred late in the evening of September 3, 2025, caused the snapping of the 132kV Otukpo–Nsukka–New Haven transmission line,” the statement read in part.
The company assured that its engineers have been mobilized to the site to commence repair work, adding that efforts are ongoing to restore normal power transmission within the shortest possible time.
TCN further appealed for public understanding, stressing that the outage in parts of Enugu and surrounding areas is temporary and being addressed as a matter of priority.
