Trump Administration Launches Immigration Raids in Chicago
Chicago, USA — The Trump administration on Monday unveiled a fresh immigration enforcement operation in Chicago, marking another high-profile federal crackdown in a major US city. The move, dubbed "Operation Midway Blitz," is aimed at arresting what officials described as the "worst of the worst criminals."
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the operation following escalating tensions between President Donald Trump and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. In recent days, Trump had publicly threatened to deploy National Guard troops to Illinois, sparking heated exchanges on social media.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin accused state leaders of undermining federal enforcement efforts by maintaining sanctuary policies.
"For years, Governor Pritzker and his fellow sanctuary politicians released Tren de Aragua gang members, rapists, kidnappers, and drug traffickers on Chicago's streets — putting American lives at risk and making Chicago a magnet for criminals," McLaughlin said.
The announcement signals an intensification of Trump's broader immigration agenda, which has often clashed with Democratic governors and city leaders across the United States.
Local officials have yet to respond to the launch of "Operation Midway Blitz," but immigrant advocacy groups in Chicago are expected to challenge the move, calling it discriminatory and politically motivated.
