Nigerian Army Urges South-East Youths to Participate in Recruitment Exercises

The Nigerian Army has called on youths from Nigeria’s South-East region to stop avoiding military recruitment exercises and actively participate in the enlistment process.

According to army authorities, the region has continued to record very low turnout during recruitment drives compared to other parts of the country. Military officials expressed concern that the lack of participation could reduce the representation of South-East indigenes within the armed forces.

Speaking during a sensitization campaign, army representatives explained that recruitment into the Nigerian Army is open to all qualified Nigerians regardless of ethnic or regional background. They emphasized that the process is transparent and designed to give equal opportunity to eligible applicants.

The army also warned against misinformation discouraging young people from joining the military, noting that serving in the armed forces is both a patriotic duty and a career opportunity that provides training, education, and job security.

Community leaders, traditional rulers, and youth organizations in the South-East were urged to encourage young people to apply whenever recruitment portals are opened. The military noted that increased participation would ensure that the region is adequately represented in national security operations and leadership positions within the army.

Officials further reassured applicants that recruitment exercises are conducted fairly and urged youths to disregard rumors or fears that might discourage them from applying.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to building a professional and inclusive military that reflects the diversity of the nation.
