Trump Administration to End TPS for Over 256,000 Venezuelans, Deportations Loom

The Trump administration has announced it will terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for more than 256,000 Venezuelan nationals in the United States, paving the way for their potential deportation.

Originally granted under President Joe Biden in 2021 and later expanded in 2023, TPS allowed eligible Venezuelans to obtain work permits and protection from removal amid ongoing crises in their home country.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated:
"Weighing public safety, national security, migration factors, immigration policy, economic considerations, and foreign policy, it’s clear that allowing Venezuelan nationals to remain temporarily in the United States is not in America’s best interest."

The move marks a significant shift in U.S. immigration policy toward Venezuelans, raising concerns about the future of thousands of families who have lived and worked in the U.S. under TPS protections.
