Gunmen Assassinate Catholic Priest in Enugu

A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Mathew Eya, was tragically killed on Friday evening in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State. The incident occurred along the Eha-Alumona–Eha-Ndiagu Road while Fr. Eya, the parish priest of St. Charles Catholic Church, was returning to his parish. According to reports, the assailants, riding on a motorcycle, intercepted his vehicle, deflated its tyres, and shot him multiple times at close range, resulting in his immediate death .

The Catholic Diocese of Nsukka has confirmed the killing, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. The Chancellor of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Cajetan Iyidobi, conveyed the Diocese's heartfelt condolences and prayers for the repose of Fr. Eya's soul .

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the motives behind the assassination and to apprehend those responsible.
