FG Moves to Tighten Airport and Prison Security Nationwide

The Federal Government has announced renewed measures to strengthen security across airports and correctional facilities in Nigeria following growing concerns over potential breaches and evolving security threats.

According to security authorities, the initiative will involve upgrading surveillance infrastructure at major airports, enhancing passenger screening processes, and improving coordination among aviation security units. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is expected to play a key role in implementing these reforms, particularly in deploying advanced monitoring systems and reinforcing access control points.

In the correctional sector, authorities say prison security will be reinforced through improved perimeter fencing, expanded biometric identification systems for inmates and visitors, and increased intelligence sharing between correctional officers and other security agencies. The Nigerian Correctional Service is also expected to receive additional support to curb jailbreak attempts and internal security lapses.

Officials noted that the move is part of a broader national security strategy aimed at preventing terrorism, smuggling, and other organized crimes that could exploit weak entry and detention points. Inter-agency collaboration is also being emphasized to ensure faster response to threats and better risk assessment across facilities.

Security analysts have welcomed the development, describing it as a timely response to emerging vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure.
