Nigeria TV Info – Luca Zidane Switches International Allegiance from France to Algeria
Luca Zidane, son of France’s legendary World Cup-winning playmaker Zinedine Zidane, has officially switched his international football allegiance from France to Algeria.
Born just outside Marseille, the 27-year-old goalkeeper represented France at youth levels but has now been cleared by FIFA to play for the Algerian national team. This move opens the possibility for Zidane to feature at the 2026 World Cup in North America, with Algeria expected to secure qualification in their upcoming match against Somalia.
Zidane, the second of four brothers who all progressed through the Real Madrid academy, currently plays for Spanish second-tier club Granada. He has also had spells with Real Madrid’s senior team, playing two matches, and gained La Liga experience at Rayo Vallecano before joining Eibar in 2022 and later moving to Granada in 2024.
His eligibility to represent Algeria comes through his father, Zinedine Zidane, whose parents hailed from the Kabylie region in northern Algeria.
Zinedine Zidane, widely regarded as one of football’s all-time greats, famously scored twice in France’s 1998 World Cup final win over Brazil and was sent off in the 2006 final against Italy, a match France lost on penalties.
Luca Zidane’s switch represents a significant boost for Algeria’s squad as they prepare for future international tournaments.
