Morocco Seal 2026 World Cup Spot After 5–0 Thrashing of Niger

RABAT — Morocco became the first African nation to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a resounding 5–0 victory over Niger in their Group E qualifier on Friday.

The match, played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, saw Morocco dominate from start to finish. Niger’s hopes took an early blow when Abdul-Latif Goumey was shown a red card in the first half. The Atlas Lions capitalized immediately, with Ismael Saibari scoring twice before the break.

In the second half, Ayoub El Kaabi, Hamza Igamane, and Azzedine Ounahi all found the back of the net to complete the demolition.

The win marked Morocco’s sixth straight triumph in the qualifiers, taking them to an unassailable 18 points — eight ahead of Tanzania with two matches left to play. This achievement secures Morocco’s seventh appearance at the World Cup finals, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.

The Atlas Lions, who reached the semifinals in Qatar 2022, have once again underlined their status as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
