Visa Fees Are Non-Refundable – U.S. Embassy Tells Nigerians
The United States Embassy in Nigeria has reiterated that visa application fees paid by Nigerian applicants are strictly non-refundable, regardless of the outcome of their application.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the embassy clarified that all payments made for visa processing are service charges and not guarantees of visa issuance. According to the embassy, the fees cover the administrative costs involved in handling and reviewing applications, whether approved or denied.
The U.S. Mission urged Nigerians applying for visas to carefully review eligibility requirements and prepare thoroughly before scheduling interviews, stressing that payment of fees does not influence consular decisions.
It further noted that applicants must apply honestly and ensure their documents are accurate, adding that any form of misrepresentation or fraud could lead to permanent visa ineligibility.
The embassy also advised applicants to avoid patronizing unauthorized agents or touts who promise guaranteed approvals in exchange for extra money, warning that such practices are fraudulent.
This clarification comes amid concerns raised by some Nigerians over the cost of visa applications and repeated denials without refunds.
